NFL News and Rumors

National Football League 2008.svg
News and notes after a busy weekend

  • Miami Dolphins logoThe legal tampering period began with the bang with the news that DT Ndamukong Suh will sign the highest contract for a defensive player with the Miami Dolphins when the market opens on Tuesday. The deal is worth $114 million, with $60 million guaranteed. This deal gives the Dolphins the game changer and breaker that they have lacked. Suh will provide the defensive line with a push that will allow them to get pressure from the middle and outside. With Cameron Wake on the outside and Suh on the inside, Miami may finally have an answer for Tom Brady and the Patriots.
  • Philadelphia Eagles logoThe Philadelphia Eagles continue to make news after they dealt LeSean McCoy and cut Trent Cole last week. They have agreed to terms with RB Frank Gore and landed the best CB on the market by signing Byron Maxwell. The signing of Gore gives them a replacement for McCoy at a cheaper cost but Gore is older than McCoy and showed some signs (although not many) of decline last year. He's on the wrong side of 30. Maxwell gives them a cover corner that they have lacked in the secondary. Philadelphia has had one of the worst secondaries in the NFL over the last couple years.
  •  Kansas City Chiefs logoThe Kansas City Chiefs may have found the game breaking wide receiver they haven't had when they agreed to terms with Jeremy Maclin. This move reunites Maclin with ex-Eagles coach Andy Reid. Kansas City did not have a single touchdown from a wide receiver last season. This move likely means Dwayne Bowe's run in Kansas City is over.
  • Green Bay Packers logo Green Bay kept one of its own when they resigned wide receiver Randall Cobb, not allowing him to reach the open market. This takes the top free agent receiver off the market and keeps one of the top receiving duals in the league together. The Oakland Raiders reportedly were extremely interested in signing the explosive receiver.

These were just some of the moves over the weekend. The free agency period officially begins at 4pm Tuesday afternoon. Check back here for updates throughout the day tomorrow.
